CORRECTIONS IN RED

Here again, but this time in red. Don't forget to write your corrections for the second chapter "Traditional Scotland". Obviously students have to post their comments for this part of the book. But we know, holidays are holidays.
Now they are finished so go ahead, please.

21 comments:

  1. This time, like the other one, it was a hard work for me to find some mistakes in the composition, but I think that this time (if I’m not mistake; that it’s a very possible thing…) I think that I found two mistakes. One of them when he talks about languages in both countries:

“Scots have the Gaelic and we have the Galician.” I think that in this sentence, like he will do in the next one, he should write “Scots have Gaelic and we have Galician” because there is only one Gaelic and one Galician.

The last one “mistake” I could find was in that sentences, more or less in the last part of the composition: “The Scots celebrated once a year a supper to remember Robert Burns”. I think that nowadays Scots continue celebrating this year supper to remember Robert Burns, so I think that he should write “The Scots celebrate once a year a supper to remember Robert Burns”, using the verb in the present and not in the past.

That was all; I say sorry if my corrections aren’t well and if I have done some mistakes in them.

  3. I think that my Colleague have a little mistakes. For example in the line two he write ``nowaday´´ and is NOWADAYS. In the line 8 he write ``Gaelic speakers has grow´´ and I think that is GAELIC IS SPEAKE FOR GROW. In the line 13 he write `` a kilt when they want other people to know they are…´´ and I think that is A KILT WHEN THEY WANT KNOW OTHER PEOPLE THEY ARE… in the line 14 he put ``international´´ and is INTERNATIONAL. The phrase of the line 20 is bad, but I don´t understood much because I am no sure. The phrase of the line 39 is bad, it is IN GALICIAN WE HAVE ALSO PARTIES AS… the`` have´´ was bad situated. In the line 44 he put ``different´´ and is DIFERENT and the finished in the line 55 he put ``as´´ and I think that is WHIT.

In the line 12 she wrotte the bagpipes is and it is the bag pipes are.

  6. When Alberto talks about skirts in Galicia, he says "They wear them every days". I think that it is a mistake, and the correct sentence is "They wear them every day".
He also says "Both Galicia and Scotland the bagpipes are traditional instruments" and I think that it is wrong. It would be "Bagpipes are traditional instruments in both countries".
I'm not sure if "Both Scotland and Galicia" is correct, and I think that is better than it say "In both countries".
He wrote "aroundd" and the correct word is "around".
The word "honfire" doesn't exist. I think that "fire" is enough.
He wrote "Scots people" and is "Scottish people" or simply "Scots".
He also wrote "The main difference is in Galicia we ear twelve grapes", and the correct sentence is "The main difference in that in Galicia we eat twelve grapes".
He wrote "gast food", and it is "fast food".
He wrote a "m" where it would be a ",".
I'm not sure if "replacing" is correct.

Sorry, I'm sure that I wrote more mistakes.
    I didn't find more mistakes.

  7. My classmate Fran had a few mistakes on his essay.

For example on the second paragraph, fifth line, he wrote: "and I think it’s very good", here is better to write great instead of very good.

The second mistake is on the sixth paragraph, he wrote "In Galicia, we have modern bagpipers and modern band that play the bagpipe", here the mistake is modern band, he wanted to put modern bands.

Another mistake is "People of boths sides..." which is on the eighth paragraph, the mistake is the "of", it has to be on (I'm not sure of this mistake).

On the same paragraph he wrote "they don't go to his neighbors’ house.", the mistake is neighbors', it should be neighbour's or neighbours's.

On the next paragraph he wrote wide instead of wine.

And the last mistake is filloas, the correct word in English is pancakes or crepes.

The tartan not one in Galicia, i think is the tartan isn't in Galicia.
I think the rest is good.

  10. Today, I’m going to correct Sergio’s essay.

    First paragraph:
[…]but the families used to help each other on their tasks[…] I think it could be [but families used[…] (without "“the”).
[…]The people who still living […] and it’s better to say […] People who still living[…] (without “the”).

    Second paragraph:
He wrote “which” without the first “h”, like in paragraphs 3 and 7.

    Fifth paragraph:
[…]The bagpipes used to play in parties with a drummer[…] I think he should write […] The bagpipes were used to play in parties with a drummer[…]

    Sixth paragraph:
[…]In Galicia, on New Year's eve, we celebrate a partie like Hogmanay[…] I think it could be […]In Galicia, on New Year's Eve, we celebrate a party like Hogmanay[…]

Sorry, but now, I’ll correct Sergio’s correction, because he corrected some things that were well done 
I think that the sentence […] People of both sides[…] is corrected
I think the word “neighbor” is corrected, because i found it in the dictionary, so the sentence could be […]they don't go to his neighbors’ house[…]
And I used the word “filloas” because I was talking about a typical dessert, and I wanted to use the typical word.

He puts "Galicia the clans means", I think that he should put "Galicia clans mean".
He writes "the mens" and it is "men".
In other sentence he writes "famous food are",I feel it is "famous food is".
He writes "it is have" and it is "it is made".

  13. OK, now I'm going to try to correct the essay that one of my classmates has done. First of all, like the other time, I have to apologize if I correct something wrong, because nobody is perfect.
    - Well, in the second paragraph (where he tells us something about Gaelic and Galician), he has said: "but also the people speak Spanish", and I think it's "but the people also speak Spanish".
    - Secondly, in the third paragraph I'm going to correct something, but I have to say that I'm not sure if it's wrong. In one sentence, he has used the word "clothe" to talk about a beret (the English word for "boina", that he hasn't used), but I think is "garment", because "clothe" is a verb (not a noun) and "clothes" is in general, not in a particular case. Another mistake is that he has put the noun before the adjective, and that's incorrect. Owing to that, the correct sentence would be "The typical garment in Galicia is the beret". The second part of the sentence is incorrect, too. It would be "but only the old people wear it".
    - In the fourth paragraph, he has put "The traditional music in Galicia called muiñeira", but it's incorrect. The correct sentence would be "The traditional music in Galicia is called muiñeira" (you need the verb “to be” in pasive sentences).
    - In the next paragraph, I think "Scots people" is incorrect. It would be "Scottish people" (because Scottish is the adjective). Then, in the sentence "In Galicia are good poets", you need tou put "there" before the verb "to be". The correct sentence would be "In Galicia there are good poets".
    - To continue, I have to make a recommendation to my classmate. It exists an expression in English that means "caña". The expression is "glass of draught beer".
    - In the next paragraph, is "the caldo gallego" instead of "a caldo gallego", and it's "the best seafood of Spain in Galicia" instead of "the best seafood to Spain in Galicia".
That's what I have been able to find. Sorry if I have corrected something wrong. Bye!

  14. I read Julian´s comment.
When he says "People in Scotland speak Gaeli" I think is "People in Scotland speak Gaelic".When he says "A Kilt is a clothe in Scotland" I think it is" A Kilt is a tipical clothe in Scotland".When he says "Bagpipes, They are the traditional Scottish music"I think is "Bagpipes, They are traditional musical intruments in Scotland". And he wrote bad whisky.
